The secretary played his final championship game of the season losing a long game to Carl who with just 1 game to play is in a good position. It is to be hoped that those who have only played 2 or 3 of their 8 games now get some games played in order to make this years competition another success!
Tom and Ant drew their Pomeroy Cup encounter so we now have 3 players on 5 points.

Tom started his campaign in the Pomeroy Cup by beating Jake on Monday. Jake remains top but others have games in hand.
Meanwhile in the Championship, Geoff suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of John Ewens. Joachim also won to keep his hopes alive.
The much delayed Secretary's Quickplay was finally decided when John-Paul defeated Tony in the play-off by 2 games to nil. Congratulations to John-Paul.
This years competition will be announced soon.

Quickplay Competition
Handicap rapid-play tournaments are held throughout the season, usually in
the Autumn, Winter and Spring. These are open to all club members and prospective
members. The Pollard Cup is awarded to the club member who achieves the best total
from any two of these events.
The Autumn Quickplay Tournament was held on Mon 19th Dec 2022.There is a £2 entry fee for each event, all of which is returned to the participants in the form of three prizes.
Players have 15 minutes in which to make all their moves.
For each 50 grading points difference (rounded up) one minute will added to the weaker player's time and one minute removed from the stronger player. No player will have less than 3 minutes for all their moves.
The arbiter will, when present, stop the game when one clock falls. Players are expected to act in a sportsmanlike manner and resign when they see their clock has fallen.
Also players should "move a piece and press the clock" with the same hand which is an important rule at the death of a game.
The QP grades to be used are in the table on the website and will be adjusted based on performance of the tournaments.
Update
There were 9 players for this years Autumn Quickplay. The tournament went well with any problems and there was no mayhem . All players played in a competitive but friendly manner.
The event started well for Joachim Trier was beat newcomer Tom Moitie and Jake Darlington beat Tony Brough in the first round.
There were lots of ups and downs and i (Denzil) took a good lead as the tournament progressed. Tom , Jake and Tony Brough also progressed nicely.
In the final round Denzil (4 points) played Tony Brough(3 points) and Tom(3 points) played Jake (2 points).
Unfortunately for me , Tony beat me to become joint top leader and Jake beat Tom to secure joint third place with Tom.
