The Pomeroy Cup competition has begun slowly with no games played on October 17th and only 4 in total to date. The organiser hopes to see more action this coming week!
Meanwhile, in the club championship, John-Paul consolidated his lead with a win over Denzil but Joachim maintained a 100% start coming through a thrilling match against Geoff who played an appalling opening. During the subsequent play both players had totally won positions, but, as they say, it's the last blunder which counts! An out of sorts Tony fell to Phil in his first match of the campaign.
Travelling to Crewe to take on Crewe A in the North Staffs League on Wednesday, a somewhat weakened Macclesfield side came a cropper losing 3.5-0.5. Out graded on each board, the team put up a fight with skipper Phil looking good for a while against Karl Lockett and Geoff on top board holding Martin Burns. The latter game saw the clock stopped when Geoff noticed no time increments were being used. Given Geoff's frequent time problems anyway, this did seem a bit over the top!
Normality returned to the club championship on Monday when the higher graded player won all 3 games.
Joachim overcame Carl who was aiming for top spot on his own. Denzil, following a good start, looked rather rusty after a considerable lay-off from the longer form of the game. Tony capitalised. John put up a spirited fight in his first game in the main club championship, but eventually lost to Geoff.
In the sole Pomeroy game of the week, Ant was beaten by Dan who was making his debut in club competition. Mike Edwards has been added to the list of competitors.
